Peer, I love you for writing this. I was going to write a reply as soon as possible, but I forgot ![]() Here it goes anyways, forget college essays :] Well, I've been playing this game for quite a while.. ever since KMS beta in 2002, when my cousin let me play her account during open beta. And then, the official game was released in 2003 and I quickly made my own account with my mommy's info :P. Mmm.. where should I start. In the beginning, leveling up was absolutely FUN. After half a year of the release, the highest level on the ranking was only around 55. So basically, being 2nd job meant you were a "pro". During those times, you were considered extremely "rich" if you just had a panlid (sold for 300k, which back then was.. a lot). There were no expiration dates on cash items. People were impressed at my "Heal," which back then could only Heal and not attack undead monsters. In order to kill a Tauromacis, you had to use at least 10 potions. Although this is true now too, Magicians greatly overpowered the other classes in training with skills such as Magic Claw, Thunder Bolt, and Teleport, thus getting the nickname "MagicianStory". Back then, no one cared about stats, skills; it was really all based on playing style (my first cleric had 20 Magic Armor.. don't laugh :X). GMs showed up in public, helping players train. And then when Ossyria came out.. everything changed. Yes, Nexon's greed for money started to be seen. No one noticed this back then, as everyone was fascinated with this "great" game, but in reality, everyone was being hypnotized by the cute animated aspects of this game. So Ossyria came out, what's the big deal? Along with the patch came: Pets, Transport rocks. Well, aren't they good for the users? Yes, they are, but this ruined the aspect of the game called "free". Maplestory is a free game on which users don't need to use their real life cash. This is true, you really don't need to. But just how much advantage do you get from having cash items? For example, Pet: it loots drops automatically. The player does not have to worry about picking up and they can train more effectively. VIP rocks: Nexon made the boat ride long on purpose!, not so that users have enough time fighting those crappy designed flying monsters that gained 20 levels from wearing extra armor D:. But of course, the users did not know this back then, because 3rd job came into effect soon after, once again mesmerizing all players. Within about a year, Nexon put on expiration dates on ALL cash items. After that, Maplestory seriously went downhill, and I retired as a rank #1 in my server, and as a rank #22 overall with a 13x I/L mage Well, I had other reasons too, such as school and family matters, but really, it was not fun for me anymore :T Grr. I tried coming back a year after, but thank you Nexon for the foreign country IP ban </3 (Stupid me, thinking something was wrong with my computer back then x]) And.. so I came to GMS in 2007, I was sick of mages, so I started with a ranger. Something happened that never happened to me before. I got hacked. .. .. .. And also this cash issue was really bigger. My first few reactions when I started to play.. "What's a Gachapon?" "They actually sell 2x exp cards here?" (Despite all the rumors, they still do NOT sell 2x exp/drop cards in KMS) "So if I don't have good workgloves, I'm treated like nothing?" -.- Seriously, this is why kids steal their mommy's credit card :T. Well, GMS was better for me.. because I actually had many people to talk to, as I did not in KMS due to time differences. If I did not meet my friends whom I met back then, I guarentee I would not be writing this right now, which supports Peer's view. I just wanted you guys to know that Maplestory WAS fun trying to level up, and Maplestory DID care about its users in its early stages. Although everything was much harder, in terms of leveling up, gaining mesos, it sure was more fun. Gaining a level actually meant you were stronger. But now.. I gain a level, all I do is press +5 INT, and done. LOL WHAT? At least let me put points into my skills.. OH WAIT, my "mastery book" is only found not even once a week. Stupid piece of ROCK. I looked for it for a month now. I found 2 and bought both during that 1 month, of which both failed. Now my skill window has nice 18 SPs, waiting to be used. ^^ And what's with selling mesos in cash shop? ridiculous.. Now, all I do is what Peer says: chat, and help my friends train and get their maps back from ksers and stuff. Yeah, it's boring. But at least let me get my skills!!@#!@#!OMGoGMGOMGSAOFJSIHJWrjaiwasfni32y924321saffdlm I'm sorry this is really long, and I have so much more to say but it's 4:30 AM and I have to finish this common app essay >__<. The outline is messy.. but you get my idea.. as Peer said, Nexon ruined a great game, and who knows what they will do in the future to attract more players to this corrupt game. I appreciate it if you read the whole thing. If not, I still love you. -Su, HeaIsYouu <33 |

Everything you say is so true and none of my friends can understand that. All but like ONE of my real life friends quit maple story about a week ago even though they have played and LOVED maple story for over 2 years. They don't understand these tiny aspects about the real point of Maple Story. I really wish they would though. I miss them so much. We used to be on for hours each day training and talking together. And now all of that is ruined =(

Playing Maple isn't fun. It's not meant to be fun. Why do you people think I never level? It's really not worth the bother in my eyes. Clearly, or at least to me, it's all a ploy to get people to pay get NX and thus earning the company that owns this game money? The maple points trade system? Bulllove, it works horrendously, lags and is in general really, really, lovety. The only reason I'm online is for you people and doing insane quests. Insane, because I don't feel like spending 72 hours killing some weird looking plant to get honey. I like maple, I liked it more without Cash shop, but still I'm not leveling like mad. I'd rather put said time towards my homework. |

I actually have to disagree. Maple IS fun... in the early stages, levelling up is fun (as long as you don't have to deal with the overpopulation of pretty near everywhere a first-jobber can train), and I enjoy grinding. No matter what game - and yes, MapleStory is a game, at least by dictionary definition - you're playing, as far as most of these MMO's are concerned, it's the social aspect that keeps people coming back. Would WoW be as much fun if it were single player? How about Guild Wars? Neverwinter Nights was fun single player, but most people I know who played it regularly did so online. In every multiplayer game, if there is a social aspect, then your persistence within that game is DIRECTLY linked to how large your social circle is. Guilds, buddy lists, all that sort of stuff. Even forums, such as this. Now, I'm not saying that MapleStory is well designed, or even well maintained. It's terrible in that respect. The game balance is poor, the GM presence is nonexistent, and Nexon is flat-out in it for the money. I'd never argue with those points. Gachapon (specially with this "mind of maple" BS)? Gach boxes? Weddings/APQ? I dont' mind the VIP rocks, or the 2x, or the pets so much - really, those are minor things, and 2x allows someone like me, who works six days a week, has social engagements, and other such things, to still level at least on occasion. If people can't control their spending, then that's their own fault, not Nexon's, though Nexon does serve as a catlyst of sorts for it. But I do have fun with MapleStory. I like getting into the nitty-gritty of the game, learning why things work the way they do, working to produce the greatest effects possible for the least input. I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but I WOULD say that I do keep coming back to it not just because of my online friends, but because of the fun I have playing. |

I play IJJI Gunz: The Duel. Its hell pro, it requires HEAPS of skill, unlike Maple Story. Just youtube "gunz finger movements" and you will see.
